Nidhi wasn’t sent to India to secure visit invitation for Dahal

Speaking at a function in Kathmandu on September 9, former foreign minister Ramesh Nath Pandey said:

“Our prime minister and president were worried about whether they would get visit invitations from India and China; so they sent special envoys to secure the invitations”.

Pandey made this statement in the context of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s planned visit to India. By saying “they sent special envoys to secure the invitations,” it is assumed that Pandey was hinting at the recent visit to India by Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi.

South Asia Check has examined whether Deputy Prime Minister Nidhi was sent to India to secure an invitation for Prime Minister Dahal to visit India.

CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Dahal was elected prime minister for the second time on August 3, 2016. On the same day, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi through his twitter account had congratulated Dahal and invited him to visit India.

Therefore, Pandey’s statement is wrong.
