Dahal’s claim that load-shedding has ended is unfounded

CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal speaking at a function in Kathmandu on July 6 said the following:

“Load-shedding has ended in Nepal. We managed to supply enough electricity.”

South Asia Check has examined whether this statement is factual or not.

According to the Economic Survey, 2016-2017 made public by the previous Dahal-led government, load-shedding has ended in the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara, and has come down significantly elsewhere. But the industrial estates and corridors still see several hours of power outage every day. Factories in Biratnagar corridor witness four hours of load-shedding, those in Birgunj see six hours of load-shedding and those in the Bhairahawa corridor suffer from over six hours of load-shedding every day (Economic Survey, 2017-18, pg 186).

Facts do not support Dahal’s claim.
