Speaking at a talk show on Sagarmatha Television recently, former finance minister and senior CPN-UML leader Bharat Mohan Adhikari said, “The joint statement issued [on May 15, 2015] by Indian and Chinese prime ministers following the China visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi states that a trilateral economic corridor connecting Nepal, India and China will be established.” See video

To see whether Adhikari’s statement is correct or not, we examined the joint statement issued during Indian Prime Minister Modi’s China visit.

The 41-point joint statement doesn’t state anywhere that an economic corridor to connect China, Nepal and India will be established.

Therefore, Adhikari’s statement is wrong.

However, a tri-lateral economic corridor had been discussed during Indian Prime Minister Modi’s China visit in May 2015, according to the Press Trust of India report of July 2, 2015.
